Spring doesn’t officially start until March 20th but for me, It started February 8th when I noticed daffodils blooming in a neighbor’s yard. Strange because they are not scheduled to bloom until March in our area. I decided to visit Duke Gardens to see what else was in bloom.
As I walked through the gardens, I witnessed a cornucopia of flowers blooming that should not be blooming for a couple of weeks. We try our best to predict when winter is over and the colors of spring will arrive. Cherry and Magnolia trees have blooming flowers with petals of pink to white. Daffodils and Camellias of various colors serve to let us know that spring weather has arrived. Temperatures have averaged warmer than normal this winter that leads to these early blooms.
Meteorologist predict but cannot control the weather. Scientist use past weather patterns to predict the arrival of flowers but precise information is only available a week or so before the blooms happen. In spite of our need to prognosticate, control and schedule, there are many things out of our control. Weather, affectionately known as Mother Nature, is one area where we do our best but often fall short in our predictions. God controls the weather and the flowers and tree have their instructions of when to sprout, flower and go dormant while waiting for the next season.
Are there areas in your life that you try your best to control but it doesn’t always work out? If so, I invite you to trust the master scheduler, Jesus Christ and you will know your time to sprout, your time to bloom and your time to rest as God prepares you for a new season!
For behold, the winter is past; the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land. Song of Solomon 2:11-12 ESV
